This one is for you who loves a good story to be told when you plan your wedding day. To have care and thought behind every little detail of your day for the guests to notice and soak in with this Backyard wedding in Texas Hill Country.

I captured Sheridan and Christians day in mid May in Austin Texas Hill Country and as we all know the pre summer heat have already started to sneak up. This day was nothing but hot and that cold pool was so tempting all day to just plunge into.

Sheridan had thrifted every plate and cup for each guest to get the full feeling of garden backyard wedding. The colors and tones set the mood for a beautiful reception.

Little La Jolla is a private property that they had rented for the weekend to gather all their loved ones in an intimate celebration of their love. Texas hill country was giving all the views in the background. The getting ready happened in the main house up the hill on the property and the reception was held by the pool area with the pool house serving as a place to cool down from the Texas sun.

If you see the photos and wonder why Sheridan doesn't wear shoes in any picture, its because we couldn't find her shoes. I always ask at the beginning of the day if they have details ready for photos if they want to. We just couldn't find her shoes, so we rolled with it and went barefoot. And it honestly made this day feel so perfect in it's own way.

I noticed how nervous and anxious Sheridan was, it's more common than you think. To have it all together and then your wedding day comes and so does the nerves. So I love to find common interests that we can chat about as we take pictures to make it feel more natural and you know how you relax when you talk about something you feel good about and just start to relax. She mentioned how she loves photography. And especially film photography, duh I love film photography and immediately we could start to enjoy the day and get more relaxed natural photos.

And what makes for a perfect backyard wedding on a hot Texas day? A grand exit to jump in to the pool. And as a photographer, this moment is crucial, there is no redo if I mess this up, if my flash don't fire or if I focus wrong. So big moment for me to nail as a photographer! I was right across from them and wanted them to jump at me to get everything from front. The photos from this evening might be some of my all time favourite photos. The barefoot bride, vows at the table, Austin Hill Country views, eating cake with hands, thrifted tablescape and all the love from friends and family is what makes this day so perfect

Planning a Backyard Wedding in the Austin Hill Country

If you’re planning a backyard wedding in Texas Hill Country, the biggest thing I tell couples is to work with the environment, not against it.

The Hill Country already gives you open views, natural light, and space. You don’t need to over-decorate or over-style it. Focus on a few elements that matter to you and let the rest stay simple.

Heat is real, especially in late spring and summer. Shade, water, and places for guests to cool off will matter more than almost anything else. Pool houses, fans, shaded seating, and a relaxed timeline make a huge difference in how everyone feels.

Think through flow. Where people will gather. Where they’ll naturally gravitate once drinks start flowing. Backyard weddings work best when guests aren’t constantly being moved from one place to another.

From a photography standpoint, light changes quickly in the Hill Country. Starting earlier in the day and building in flexibility allows you to take advantage of that without rushing. Some of the best moments happen when no one is watching the clock.

Backyard weddings in Austin and the Hill Country don’t need to be perfect to be beautiful. The days that stand out are the ones that feel honest, a little loose around the edges, and true to the people getting married.

Why Backyard Weddings Are So Beautiful

From a photographer’s perspective, backyard weddings work because people relax faster. There’s no unfamiliar venue to figure out, no rules about where you can stand or how long something can last. Everyone settles in quickly, and that changes how the day unfolds.

Backyards allow moments to stretch. Conversations don’t get cut short. Guests move around naturally instead of being funneled from one space to another. That creates photographs that feel connected rather than staged.

Visually, backyard weddings have layers. You get wide frames that show the space, the landscape, the sky. And then you get close moments happening at the same time. A hand on a shoulder. Someone refilling a drink. Kids running through the background. Those in-between moments are where a lot of the story lives.

When couples let a backyard be a backyard instead of trying to turn it into a traditional venue, the day always feels better and it photographs better too.

Then I have some to add from the Film Camera
